On July 31, the containment steel liner module for Unit 4 of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project in Guangdong, China, was successfully lifted and installed, with the operation supported by a ZOOMLION ultra-large-tonnage crawler crane.

The containment steel liner is a critical protective barrier of the reactor building. The bottom module involved in this operation is a large-diameter, thin-wall structure that presents significant challenges during lifting. Traditional lifting methods using concentrated lifting points can cause uneven stress and deformation, while overlapping operating areas between large crawler cranes and tower cranes may increase the risk of interference and equipment collisions.

To address these challenges, the project team developed an integrated lifting truss system. Featuring 16 primary lifting points and hundreds of distributed lifting points and slings, the system evenly distributes loads and effectively minimizes structural deformation.

During the operation, the ZOOMLION crawler crane demonstrated strong heavy-load capacity, precise micro-control and excellent stability throughout lifting, slewing, horizontal movement and final positioning.

The successful installation highlights the growing role of advanced heavy lifting equipment in modular nuclear power construction and demonstrates how innovative lifting technologies can improve precision, safety and efficiency in complex projects.
